Introducing Karey Hutchinson, New Managing Director of Indiana Fertility Institute

Posted on November 19, 2024 by Inception Fertility

We are thrilled to welcome Karey as the new Managing Director of Indiana Fertility Institute! With a rich background in healthcare management and a deeply personal connection to our clinic, Karey brings a unique perspective to her leadership role. Having started as a patient at IFI, she understands the emotional and physical journey many of our patients experience and is dedicated to making a positive impact both in the clinic and the community.

A Journey Through Healthcare

Karey’s career path wasn’t a straight line to healthcare. “Healthcare was not a field I had ever considered growing up, and I stumbled into it in 2005,” she shares. Her career began at a plastic surgery office in Indiana before moving to Florida, where she held various roles, including HR Generalist at a local hospital. She quickly discovered her passion for healthcare management while managing an ENT practice, a role that solidified her desire to lead in the medical field.

After several years working in Florida, Karey felt something was missing from her life. "I had always had the dream of getting married, having kids, and the white picket fence," she says, reflecting on her decision to move back to Indiana. The move was driven by her desire to start a family as a single mother, which ultimately led her to IFI—not just as a career opportunity, but first as a patient.

A Personal Connection to IFI

Karey’s experience as a patient at IFI played a pivotal role in her decision to apply for the Managing Director position. "IFI was such a huge part of my life, and I always wanted a way to give back," she recalls. "I had such wonderful people enter my life during my time as a patient at IFI, and I knew it would feel the same working here."

After only three months in the role, Karey feels confident she made the right decision.

"You feel welcomed when you walk in the doors. The physicians truly care about their patients and staff, and people are happy," she explains.

As she transitions from patient to leader, Karey is excited about the possibilities ahead.

Leadership Rooted in Collaboration and Care

Karey’s leadership approach is informed by her diverse experiences in healthcare. She believes in a collaborative work environment with a focus on respect and transparency. "I know when I don’t understand something and lean on the team to help," she says.

At the core of her leadership philosophy is one guiding principle: "We are here for the patients, and whatever we need to do to take care of them is how I lead."

Her top priority for the coming year is to deepen her understanding of fertility from a leadership perspective. "I experienced it as a patient, but working in the field is a whole new ball game," she notes. This dual perspective of having been a patient and now managing the clinic is something that will benefit both the staff and the patients at IFI.

A Life Outside of Work

Outside of her professional life, Karey is a dedicated mother to her son, Tucker, whom she adopted 5 ½ years ago. "Life has been a joy [ever] since. Adoption was something I had always considered, as I was adopted at birth as well," she shares. In her downtime, Karey enjoys spending time with her son, whether through sports, art projects, or simply enjoying the outdoors. "Summertime is our favorite season, and we spend most weekends on the lake," she adds.

Looking Forward

Karey’s journey—from patient to Managing Director—makes her uniquely qualified to lead IFI with empathy, passion, and a commitment to patient care. As she steps into this role, her focus remains on ensuring that every patient feels supported and cared for, just as she did during her own fertility journey. "Our duty is to serve our patients to the best of our ability," she says, and with Karey at the helm, the future of IFI looks bright!
