You Are Not Alone
Some couples experiencing infertility often feel that they are the only ones going through these challenges. The truth is, nearly 1 in 8 families experience infertility, and there are many resources to help you feel supported in your fertility journey.
No Two Fertility Journeys are Alike
At Indiana Fertility Institute, we understand that each couple’s story is different, as well as the way they may react to stressful situations. Our experienced and compassionate staff is here to assist you by providing you the emotional support and resources you might need along the way.

What to Expect Emotionally
Undergoing fertility treatment can feel like an emotional rollercoaster. Feeling the hope, waiting, and uncertainty coupled with anxiety, frustration, and guilt can be experienced. These emotions are commonly felt by patients and couples struggling with infertility and are completely normal.

Infertility Can Strain Even The Best Relationships
We have compiled a list of some suggestions to help communicate your feelings with your partner:
- Try not to assign blame or lash out in anger when tensions are running high.
- Setting goals as a couple can help you gain clarity about how far you are willing to go with your treatment plan.
- Additionally, discuss your financial and emotional boundaries regarding treatment.
- If you’ve been through a long period of treatment, consider taking a pause to re-evaluate, even a month off can help relieve some of the pressure you may be feeling.

When to Seek Additional Support
If you are feeling “stuck,” you should consider speaking with a fertility counselor if you are experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, or so preoccupied with your infertility that you have trouble focusing on day-to-day life. Additionally, we encourage anyone undergoing treatment to reach out to peer-to-peer support groups, which can help ease the loneliness, help validate the emotions you may be feeling, and empower you with additional knowledge.
The Cabin Counseling & Resource Center has been providing support for those navigating the infertility journey for over twenty years. Both traditional talk therapy and art therapy are offered. These methods have been proven to be effective in helping patients explore and understand the emotional aspects of infertility.
Talking with a counselor as you pursue infertility treatment can help reduce stress, anxiety, frustration, and depression as well as assist in the decision-making process that often accompanies the infertility journey.
